Tamabil, Sylhet is a border out post on Sylhet- shilong Road, about 55 km away from Sylhet town. Besides enchanting views
of the area one can also have a glimpse of the waterfalls across the border from Tamabil. Jaflong is also a scenic spot
nearby amidst tea gardens and rare beauty of rolling stones from hills.
Tamabil is an important land port for importing coal, limestone, stone, fruits and exporting cosmetics, bricks
and processed food. The port is the first land port in Sylhet division and 11th in the country.
At the cost of Tk 69.26 crore, the land port was built on 23.72 acres of land of which 1,09,330 cubic meters were
developed, 2500 meters of wall was built, 8180 square meters long internal road was constructed.
The authority also constructed 27 thousand square meters of open stack yard, a warehouse of 744 square
meters, two thousand meter long drainage system, an office, dormitory, barrack and five watch towers in the
port area. The land port also has two weight bridge and two weight scale, each with the capacity of 100 tones.
The Tamabil border crossing (open between 6am and 5pm), 55km north from Sylhet. Getting to the border can be messy – some
travelers have reported being confused as to where the official crossing actually is, but all declare the hassle well worth
the scenery between Dawki and Shillong in India: it’s spectacular. Coming from India, Sylhet division is a nice way to ease
